I bought the Gigaware USB Transfer Cable at Radioshack, per their recommendation, to tranfer records from my old XP laptop to new Vista laptop. It comes including the FileMover software.You might think, as I did, how hard is it transfer records--one of the most basic tasks in computing? Answer: Very hard including FileMover. In particular, I be inflicted including had two enormous harms. One which I be inflicted including yet to decipher is it periodically says "Can't connect to USB Connection," for no discernable reason. I be inflicted including tried rebooting in cooperation machines, removing (safely!) the USB cable and reinserting, I flush returned it to Touchtone phone system Shack and got a new one thinking that was the problem--no, it is something else. And there is no aid or explanation what the problem is or what the key is.The second problem I figured out after a few hours: It would constantly thump while trying to tranfer records. Again, no explanation--it would just say it encountered an error and would shut down the curriculum. Eventually, I figured out that one file buried in my laptop had a % character in the file first name and this was causing the problem. So of course the best way to soubriquet that is not to say something be fond of "invalid file first name" and skip it, or flush say problem transfer a point file, no FileMover chooses to just shut down without explanation.In sum, avoid this product if you can.
