Beyond Atlantis - PC Best Reviews

Beyond Atlantis - PC Best ReviewsI've introduced my wife to computer making a bet. She used to hate all the shoot and kill. I gave her a copy of Riven, and Myst, and her life changed forever. We had so much fun playing those. Now, we try a few sports assembly I thought we could be fond of, and Further than Atlantis is definitely one of those we loved. We've played Crystal Key and Lotus Spring, and Further than Atlantis combines the best of in cooperation. The graphics are stunning, Cryo's 3D engine (found in all the dreamcatcher sports assembly I've seen so far) is very skilled. One little regret: you can bypass the animation by clicking in the middle of it, but you cannot bypass the loading time including the cdrom. That prevents at once moving through sequences. All the worlds in Atlantis are beautifully crafted, and the underlying story line (you be inflicted including to go skilled actions to tilt the balance between skilled and evil in the world) is very water supply rendered. You won't regret it, just for the story! And disparate Crystal Key which had such a disappointing finish (a screen of ``Congratulations''), the reward in Atlantis is high. Some ideas are so creative, you will be Alice in Wonderland. And the final sequence blew us away! Welcome to Paradise! The puzzles are very challenging. Interestingly, we managed to influence through the Maya world without hints. But we did need a walkthrough in China, for the disc/bridge puzzle. Anybody who can explain the key, please email! You should expect to be capable to decipher the whole game in a week or two. We got stuck on the rainbow bridge because we didn't know about rotating the tiles. It's not in the manual. So don't hesitate to try clicking everywhere. You will by no means die or be penalized. Everything can be reversed and replayed. All the sequences. On the negative side, the manual is very skinny, and it's hard to know what we're doing ill-treat. The punchline in this kind of sports assembly is TALK TO EVERYONE ALWAYS. They sometimes find new things to talk about, after something happens (and you don't permanently notice, so you might assume you've already gotten all the juice out of them). A further subtle thing is that the game permanently tries to make some kind of connection so things don't turn random. But it's hard to notice, and sometimes the connections are very tenuous. When something goes ill-treat, you be inflicted including to go in trade and try to make sense of everything. Little things be fond of ``I could be inflicted including helped you but..'' in a dialogue are supposed to let you know you did something not right a couple of steps before. Try and find out what! The game permanently allow for the brute-force key (try all combinations) but it's permanently skilfully at the edge of impractical (granted, you could try 400 combinations, but it's faster to think!). Lastly, you can get some hints by the color of the cursor, but as a further reviewer regrets, the manual doesn't tell you what the colors means. Austerely be alerted by a change in the color of the cursor.I am looking forward to probe into the Sacred Amulet, the newest Dreamcatcher. If you don't want to wait, Atlantis is yours! You must try it!

It's too bad Dreamcatcher Games' games all have the exact same gameplay. I reflect they're trying to re-initiation the stylishness of Myst, keep for they don't realize with the intention of there is a subtle art to making a game like this. The initially rule they violate is to make the game doable to figure made known on your confess. They provide very nearly no clues for any of the puzzles (It's impossible to figure made known where to use the crystal ball in each place unless you try each single screen). They make it so difficult you pretty much have to use a walkthrough. I was capable to make through Myst without any help, keep for I didn't last five minutes in Beyond Atlantis. The only good part about the game is the way it looks. All the worlds look amazing (which is good, because you'll be spending a lot of time in each one).Unless you like to spend countless hours trying to figure made known puzzles with absolutely no clues at your disposal, you should dodge this one.

I just refined before a live audience Beyond Atlantis (called "Atlantis 2" in Europe) and want to tell you approximately of the things I liked most in this area this diversion. In all-purpose, what I like in this area DreamCatcher adventure games are the beautiful worlds and the immersive experience they offer. Their games are like a vacation-on-a-disk. Before a live audience them foliage me suspicion refreshed.I bought Beyond Atlantis since I sought after a mini-vacation, and I wasn't disappointed! Setting the diversion in three extremely different locations -- Ireland, the Yucatan, and Plates -- and counting the unique cultural elements of each place owing to the diversion a lot like a real vacation. I got to experience many of the benefits of traveling with not any of the stress! In addendum to the beautiful sights, the sounds enhanced the total diversion mess about experience tremendously. The accent performing arts was extremely well done. I particularly valued the excellent music, which fit each cultural setting perfectly. Saving the most beautiful and moving music for the end of the diversion owing to for a extremely effective and satisfying finish -- I even replayed the ending a couple of times just to hear the music again. I shortly learned with the intention of the entire soundtrack consisted of first compositions by the extremely creative and talented musician Pierre Esteve, and I even bought the soundtrack on CD.The diversion's puzzles were both challenging and satisfying to decipher. I be thankful for all the research with the intention of went into creating approximately of these puzzles. Using the Mayan base-20 number logic and the cycles of foundation and destruction for the five elements from Traditional Chinese Medicine as the basis of puzzles in the Yucatan and Plates was a wonderful perception. It owing to for approximately great puzzles, and it was also extremely culture in a extremely enjoyable way. (Unfortunately, approximately reviewers be inflicted with dishonorably criticized the diversion's puzzles as illogical; the logic was definitely there -- they just didn't see it.)I enjoyed the diversion's parody of Hell, which I planning was quite clever. For many of us, the endless paperwork we should perfect, with exacting precision, according to incomprehensible instructions, at the petition of not-extremely-helpful regime officials, is indeed Hell! (To emphasize this point, the administrative offices at my academe are in Needles Hall, which the students be inflicted with aptly renamed Needless Hell!)The reason I didn't produce the diversion a full 5 stars for fun was with the intention of I did be inflicted with a few frustrating moments. For example, I was frustrated with the intention of I had so greatly difficulty moving in the giant spider web in Xibalba, the Mayan Land of the Dead. Afterwards, I realized with the intention of this wasn't a bug -- it was a feature! The diversion designers sought after to simulate the gumminess of the web. At the calculate, I felt they did their job only too well -- but now I can be thankful for this touch of realism.Recording the journeys in the crystal globe was the only puzzle I felt wasn't reasonable. Opportunely, there are good hints and walkthroughs available for free on the web which overcome this insignificant problem. The Complete Hints Logic (UHS) file by Jeanne Muse is particularly good, and actually enhanced my diversion before a live audience experience. In finish, I found Beyond Atlantis to be a wonderfully well-owing to diversion with the intention of provided me with many hours of enjoyment and satisfaction (over 20 hours, in fact). It makes me preview forwards to before a live audience Beyond Atlantis 2 (called "Atlantis 3" in Europe) all the extra.

The only saving point for this game is the graphics...I be inflicted including to admit that some of them were unquestionably astonishing. That out of the way, THIS GAME WAS A WASTE OF TIME! Far too many of the puzzles were either too pixel-insightful or too block out to grasp the planning lacking tearing one's hair out! There was WAY too much backtracking to accomplish tasks, having to talk to someone on the additional side of a planet to close a fastidious puzzle, including no tip at all of having to do so. Necessary material to complete puzzles often just blended into the scenery, extremely nearly as if they were not flush material. Also, vital clues to solving puzzles were stashed away in one, modest, unobtrusive graphic that may possibly be inflicted including been straightforwardly missed. Cryo and Dreamcatcher seemed to spend all enhancement time on the graphics, but relied too heavily on them as a replacement for of integrating the puzzles into them. Much like some of Dreamcatcher's games, The precious marble Key (just as maddening), The FOrgotten (the first in a series that seems to be inflicted including been forgotten, thankfully), and others. I just finished Myst : Exile, and was thoroughly impressed that I solved it lacking the need of a walkthrough. Much more nourishing.

I've only begun this game, but wanted to share a tip for anyone else who is having trouble running this in XP. It seems the game cannot handle large memories, thus the "disk full" message even though you have over 200G left. This worked for me:Load Beyond Atlantis onto a thumb drive and run it in compatability mode . I used a 1G and it works fine. So far, 1G is more than adequate. As for the game, I think this one will be great fun. Lovely graphics and ambiance are what I look for first and Beyond Atlantis seems to have just that. I love the tinkling bells in the background. If it turns out disappointing, I'll revise my review. But, I wanted to post this tip and save someone else 3 days of frustration. Hope this helps! Now, if I can only get Myst and Riven to run.... )-:

I was by no means a pad gamer. Too much blood and guts, shooting and butchery, and a need for instant reactions. Long ago, I played a Lucas game called Loom, and loved it. It was a big step, in its time, in view of the fact that it didn't have the foreign language instructions...you just keen and clicked. It was also a game for all, with puzzles to decipher, and very near no violence - not to bring up no time limits.Just last year, I succumbed to curiosity and purchased Myst. Oh, my! Then RealMyst and Riven. I was hooked! So now, I am coming up for the relief of ?migr?, and looked-for a upset to reside in my mynd, and keep in do for Myst III. I have contemplated Atlantis for a even as, and everlastingly caved in. I know the reviews are hurtful, but I sought after a upset non-violent, and with lots of puzzles.I house of safeguard't been before a live audience Atlantis long, but so far have had no harms. (PIII, nVidia, 733MHZ, 128MB RAM, 44xCD - I'd BETTER not have harms!) The game runs smoothly and promptly. I love the composition, and the graphics are good, even if not of the feature of the Myst run. (With RealMyst, not anything will ever be the same as far as sports assembly!) The font look a modest like Gumbys, but what the heck?! (Not sure why they didn't use real broadcast, like Cyan.)The report line reminds me of the report line of the David Eddings run of fantasy novels in this area Belgarion, the keeper of the orb of set alight...VERY akin, so I don't know I am more keen to see a report here than persons who have not read that run.As to the puzzles...diabolical! Love 'em! (I hope the game lasts in anticipation of ?migr? comes out.) Too hard? Well, NOTHING can be harder than the masonry puzzle in Riven. (I had to cheat...I may maybe NOT see what I was held to on persons topo maps on Spike Island!) Above and additional than, I planning-out that the longer I have to work at it, the more I'm being paid my cash's value. To persons who put down adventure sports assembly in view of the fact that they are not spring out-em-ups: Give us a break! Here are a lot of us out here who love these gentler, more mental sports assembly, and have a hard time consequence them! (If here weren't a lot of us, would the Myst run have been so ordinary???) Here are LOADS of sports assembly to the top with violence...so play them, by now, and house us Myst-ies to our own cleverness!

I'm not a hard-core gamer. I don't dissipate hours each day in adjoin of my pad. And I get frustrated straightforwardly. So Additional than Atlantis was exact for me. It was a challenge without life too hard (I did use some cheats even if) and it took me numerous weeks to close. The graphics were beautiful, and the voice the theater arts was no of poorer quality than a lot of additional sports assembly I've played. My pet map of the game was the five, absolutely uncommon levels. In one, you're in a Buddhist temple. In a additional, you're an Irish monk. In yet a additional, you journey to the planet of the dead. The differences actually helped keep my appeal. Also, it wasn't violent. Here's no shooting or additional nerve-racking 'proceedings.' You win the game by solving puzzles and consequence and by bits and pieces in your give. The game force not be revolutionary, but you get a lot of entertainment for $20.

NOTE --- I played the U.K. version of this game, which was released a few months ago below the title of "Atlantis 2." The U.S. version (the one available here) may control slight differences.PROS --- 1. Additional than Atlantis reminds me of Big Sky Broadcast -- everything in it is better than life, extra fully realized, vaster than in the usual visual adventure. The game takes you on a spectacular quest through three earlier cycle worlds, all complete including a can-you-decipher-this dramatic dilemma, clear unexpected associations to each following dimensions full of mystery, plot twists and surprises.2. The game has the largeness of moral fiber and the generous gameplay of "Riven," but spices up the environments including fantastical monsters and heroes reminiscent of a mythological trade show epic (a bit like "Dragonheart" meets "Jason and the Argonauts"). Flush if at sensitivity a habitual adventure, in approximately places Additional than Atlantis extremely near feels like an action game. In detail there are approximately action sequences, though you usually don't have to click madly including the mouse to control the outcome -- you've by now customary the way the action will end including your mind (or, um, be deficient in thereof).3. In cooperation the graphics and the composition are unforgettable. Ancient Ireland is serenely great, including haunting convey melodies before a live audience in the shared class. And the Shambhala sky islands are as strikingly bizarre as the floating palace in "Obsidian". Sometimes in adventure sports assembly I am surprised by the key of a certain puzzle, but here I was consistently surprised by the imaginative road sign, shapes, sounds, and creatures in the each following worlds. And did I mention including the intention of the cut-scenes are dazzling? This game really goes all out to get categorically everything aptly.CONS --- 1. I encountered an autoplay bug including the intention of caused the Installation curriculum to load whenever I inserted CD-ROM 1. To get out, you just hit cancel and exit complex, and then you can entrance the game (I desire this problem is fixed in the U.S. version).2. The reputation movements during dialog sequences are extremely odd-looking. Also, a notification: you can't permanently trust the dialog icons. Irregularly, when the icon is greyed-out, there is soothe dialog available. If you are blocked, try clicking ended again on all of the icons.3. Additional than Atlantis has its rational impart of puzzles than can be solved just by messing including material (straightforward puzzles -- my favorites!); however, there are a few puzzles in this game including the intention of demand accurate performance and/or inspired, creative planning. Approximately of the puzzles are mainly innovative (the rainbow form a junction including, for develop), which makes it tricky to discover quick solutions for them (except, of way, you don't mentality consulting a walkthrough). Additional, the game really may possibly do a better job of letting you know whether you are progressing correctly, or if you are pursuing a dead end.BOTTOM LINE --- This is a magnificent game including tremendous breadth of fascinate -- an following classic.

The conundrum including the puzzles in Beyond Atlantis is the complete absence of guidance in this vicinity what to do including all puzzle and what you will realize by solving it. Here are a hardly any which are intuitive keep for this is the exclusion rather than the imperative. In an adventure diversion tiresome puzzles are a skilled thing as far as I'm apprehensive keep for they call for to be most likely and relevant to clues you be inflicted including by now seen or establish rather than perfectly abstract and consequently requiring examination and blunder, which is how most are in Beyond Atlantis.I do not reconcile including the intention of flush a scoured adventure-gamer can complete this adventure lacking the aid of a walkthrough, which to me perfectly spoils the encounter and the significance of achievement you get on to early completing this category of diversion. No problem - I could maybe not pass the time to get on to to the aim, keep for for all the ill-treat reasons! I did not take pleasure in playing this diversion whatsoever.I purchased Beyond Atlantis and Beyond Atlantis II at the same calculate, and including playing the ex-, was dreading playing it's sequel, however my agonize was excessive. Each gripe I had in this vicinity Beyond Atlantis has been rectified in the before long, making it a fantastic diversion including tiresome keep for intuitive puzzles including the intention of can be solved including kind normal of your surroundings. Whilst a modest bumpy, the graphics and sound are fantastic and enable you to be converted into perfectly immersed in the story. I urge including the intention of anyone considering this title, purchase the sequel "Beyond Atlantis II" instead, which whilst not as skilled as the Myst Trilogy is indeed lone of the most excellent sports assembly void.

At the start off, let me only say the graphics and music in this diversion were categorically great. Very relaxing and very near magical in a calming way. However, whatever calm relaxing feelings with the intention of our conjured up through graphics and music quickly fade away in frustration. Walk-through's are a must have for this diversion, not in check over of the fact with the intention of the puzzles are with the intention of trying, but in check over of the fact with the intention of the diversion doesn't yield you enough clues to figure out what, where or as you are held to do something. Unadorned instructions or hints from the loads of dialogue conversations would actually aid this diversion by the side of. I was also a bit messed up by the 'nose about-bowl' peek of some of the loads of typeset faces. The Mayan & Celtic worlds were fascinating and a lot of fun, but frustrating in areas. I still haven't finished the diversion in check over of the fact with the intention of I missed one of the "have to do" actions and I don't feel be fond of redoing all. Get this one on sale. It's worth the calculate to mess about, but don't estimate to get through this one without some outside aid.
